Newborn Sessions
Preserving the tiny details, tender moments, and overwhelming love that make these first days unforgettable.
From tiny newborn details to the quiet connection and overwhelming love that fill these first days, every session is thoughtfully designed to preserve this beautiful season with warmth, softness, and heart. These moments pass far too quickly, but the memories deserve to last forever.

The Beauty of New Beginnings
The newborn days are some of the most beautiful and emotional moments in life, and also some of the most fleeting. Tiny fingers wrapped around yours, sleepy stretches, soft little expressions, and the overwhelming love that fills those first quiet days together all begin to change far too quickly.
My goal is to preserve this season in a way that feels natural, heartfelt, and timeless. Every session is centered around connection, warmth, and the tiny details that make your baby uniquely yours, creating images that allow you to hold onto these memories long after this season has passed. These moments may be fleeting, but the memories deserve to last forever.

A Relaxed & Baby-Led Experience
Newborn sessions are designed to feel calm, gentle, and completely centered around your baby’s comfort. There is never any rushing or pressure during our time together. Sessions typically last around 3–4 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding breaks, soothing, cuddles, and simply settling into the moment naturally.
Your baby’s safety and comfort will always come first. With years of experience working with newborns, I carefully guide each session in a way that feels relaxed, peaceful, and supportive for both baby and parents. My goal is for you to leave the studio feeling cared for, comfortable, and confident that these precious first memories have been beautifully preserved.

Preparing For Your Session
A Little preparation helps create a relaxed & beautifully connected experience
Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first two to three weeks after birth, when babies are still naturally sleepy and curled up. Because availability is limited, I always recommend reserving your session during pregnancy whenever possible.
Before your session, I’ll guide you through everything you need to know, from what to wear and what to bring, to how to help baby arrive calm and comfortable for the session. My goal is to make the entire experience feel simple, stress-free, and enjoyable for your family.
The studio is fully prepared with wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets, and carefully selected props in soft, timeless tones. Sessions are styled with a natural and organic approach, keeping the focus on your baby and the beautiful connection within your growing family.
Parents and siblings are always welcome to participate, helping create meaningful images that capture not only how this season looked, but how it truly felt.
Got questions?
Why choose Lisa Matthis Newborn Photography?
When choosing a photographer, it is really important to choose someone whose images speak to you… Images you feel you connect with. If my work does that for you, then I would love to tell you some ways that I make sure you are getting the best.
*I take my time every step of the way. Sessions can be anywhere from 2 hours to 4 hours. I never rush to end a session. It just happens naturally when I know I have the images I am looking for. I spend, in total, anywhere from 20-30 hours on your session between the planning, preparation, shooting, editing, proofing, ordering, and more.
*Safety is most important to me. I will never put your baby in danger. I have a fully trained full-time assistant to make sure your baby has someone watching her/him every second of the session.
*Quality… not quantity. It’s an investment that will last forever. Each and every image I treat as a piece of art…each given time and care. Each client is seen as important, and each order is treated like a gift. All my products are printed on high-quality professional paper.
Why are newborn sessions scheduled within the first two weeks of life?
During the first two weeks, newborns are still super sleepy and love to curl up like they were in the womb. (After this age, they don’t sleep as deeply and are much more alert. They wake more easily when being moved from one pose to another. Babies as young as 10 days old often develop a little colic and “baby acne” from post-birth hormones.)
What do I need to bring?
Apart from your precious new bundle…
*Bottles and formula/breast milk
*Pacifier
*We want to capture them just the way they are so don’t worry about bringing any clothes or props (unless you have something special you would like me to include in a picture).
I provide all props, wraps, buckets, headbands, outfits etc.
What days do newborn sessions take place on?
Newborn sessions take place during weekdays.
Why is the studio so warm?
Newborns have a difficult time regulating their own body temperature. To keep them comfortable with no clothing on it is important to keep the studio warm. I keep my studio between 85F and 90F. At this temperature, it is nice and warm for the baby, and he/she will likely sleep more soundly.
What do parents do during the session?
Adjacent to the newborn studio is a super comfy area I call the ‘Parent room”. Two large see-through glass doors separate the two areas, so that you can see your baby at all times. The studio is much warmer than the parent area, and the doors keep it climate-controlled. We have Wifi, so please bring your laptop and work if you’d like to. We also have Netflix, so if there is that movie/series you want to catch up on… For those a little braver, you’re welcome to take a drive to the outlet mall, go shopping, or even treat yourself to a pedicure! Take this time as a little gift.
Why are newborn sessions so long?
Newborn sessions are usually about 4 hours. This gives us time to cuddle, feed, change, and settle baby when he/she needs it. I always take my time with newborns. I will never rush a session and take as much time as we need, allowing your baby to be my guide. After every pose, your baby will need to be moved, wrapped/unwrapped in order to change the setup. During this time, baby often wakes up and needs to be soothed back to sleep or fed. Newborn sessions typically take hours to complete. I aim to have you feeling completely relaxed and enjoying every moment of your session.
Do you include family and siblings in newborn sessions?
Absolutely! We encourage parents and siblings to be included!
What should parents wear?
Timeless clothing in organic colors lend themselves to beautiful photographs. I recommend soft, neutral colors (creams, greys, taupes) to keep the focus on baby. Try to avoid busy patterns.
How do I prepare baby for the session?
It is important to try to keep your baby awake for 2-3 hours before the shoot – if necessary, try a cool facecloth, or a bath is a great way to delay sleepiness. (Keeping baby awake will ensure that baby is sleepy enough to get the maximum benefit of the photoshoot.
Immediately before leaving home to come to the studio, give baby a FULL feed – you can top up when you arrive. This will help baby remain peaceful and sleepy throughout the session.
If your child is breastfed & needs to feed, we will happily break for this. If however, you are comfortable to use a bottle of breast milk or formula for the session, please bring it with as it makes the session easier.
